Constantly sought after for various matters concerning how to cook turkey or other culinary refinements from his village, johnny Stylite was unable to fully devote himself to his generously self-attributed stylite role. Nevertheless, he managed to last a good three to four successive years on his column, which consisted all in all of a four poster bed and a fitted kitchen. He was thrown food from down below, and would lovingly cook himself enticing dishes, the aroma of which wafted off far away, arousing jealousy among Henrik, Philandre and Nestor, his stylite colleagues from neighbouring villages, who did not share Johnny's gifts for cuisine, far from it. Moreover, Nestor, whose taciturn nature was only lit up by visits from his harlot Rugue, would proclaim to anyone who'd listen that his cooking skills considerably outstripped Johnny's, who incidentally was not a true stylite (he came down at night), unlike he, Nestor, and so the turkey-cooking contest was held from one column to the next, but the outcome remains secret to all, even those involved.
